Have you heard the news that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish? Yes it is true. ππ βοΈ
In the next 15 years, the amount of plastic in the ocean is predicted to double, and by 2050, there may be twice as much plastic in the ocean as there are fish. Giant plastic islands are currently circling the ocean, and even in the Arctic, beaches are becoming more and more strewn with plastic waste. π§πβοΈ
Thus, the circular economy must take place. In a circular economy, materials are reused to create a more sustainable environment. If we don't apply the circular economy in 2023, the ocean will be filled with more plastic than fish by 2050. This will worsen the impact of climate change by threatening marine life, industries, people, and the environment.
In Australia, there's a National Waste Policy Action Plan and a $A250 million Recycling Modernization Fund to modernize recycling infrastructure. This plan can create innovative solutions for onshore recycling and remanufacturing. ππ
One organization adhering to this action plan is Remade in Australia. This is an independent, local initiative that promotes creative campaigns to educate Aussies about recycling waste. Β Their goal is to promote reusable plastics and get them out of landfill through consumer behavior education. . They're building a consumer-led movement to convince Australian supermarkets toΒ use 100% Australian-made recycled packaging. Closed Loop, which is similar to Remade in Australia,Β also aims for Australia to endΒ plastic packaging imports and manufacturing soon.Β They actively promote circular communities through behavior changes and education.ππ‘π΄
Β
So how can you help? Make sure you always recycle packaging and products wherever possible. It is the first step for getting used packaging and products in the right place for them to be reused.
In 2023, we will continue to work together and be committed to a circular economy. We will uphold the call for no plastic usage so that we can reduce the impact of climate change in our lives. No lives will be harmed as we aim for a future that is greener and safer.ππππ
