To Bee or not to Bee 🐝

Did you know that an estimated 1/3 of the world’s food crop is dependent on pollination?

Bees are super important for the environment but often taken for granted. Through cross-pollination, bees help pollinate our plants so that they can carry out fertilisation to produce fruit, vegetables and seeds. The primary benefit of cross-pollination is to prevent in-breeding, thus allowing plants to thrive and survive!

Bees have several benefits within the ecosystem; they increase biodiversity and food production, maintain ecosystems and provide micronutrient rich foods ( Source: WeForum). Put simply, the world will simply not survive without bees.

However, bees are currently at risk of survival due to the increased levels of air pollution, pesticides and insecticides. Pesticides can affect the navigation pattern as well as learning and feeding behaviour of bees. They also negatively affect bees’ ability to locate their nests. ( Source: UN Environment Programme)

We Bee-long with Bees! Here are some tips to help bees prosper:

  1. Encourage plant diversity by planting different types of flowers and plants 🌱
  2. Utilise organic gardening techniques 🪴
  3. Say no to pesticides 🪱
  4. Spread awareness about how important bees are for an invigorating ecosystem! 🌎

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝
